The Death of Mrs. J. W. Brummett
After an illness of several weeks death claimed Mrs. Mary C. Brummett, beloved wife of J. W. Brummett, of the Lanham community, on Saturday, March 31, at six o'clock in the evening.
The last rites were performed by her pastor, Rev. O. O. O. Newton,
at the family residence on Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the
private burial grounds on the home place. A great company of bereaved
relatives and friends attended the religious ceremonies and placed
numerous floral pieces, formed of gorgeous blossoms on the mound that
marks her last earthly resting place.
Mrs. Brummett was born in the state of Mississippi, March 7, 1868.
She is survived by her aged husband and several children, as well as a
number of stepchildren, whose love for her was as great as that children
cherish for an own mother. She was a devout and active member of the
Church of Christ with her membership in the Hamilton congregation. Mrs.
Brummett was a noble, self-sacrificing woman, the memory of whose life
will be an inspiration to all those who knew her to emulate the marked
traits of her character.
The Herald-Record offers tenderest sympathy to all those whoe loss
is so great, and whose sorrow is immeasurable.

Mary Caroline Owens is assumed to have a maiden name of Thornton as per an e-mail from Carlian:
"I got a email back from the County Clerk Office in Hamilton County. She looked
up the death certificate for Mary C. Owens. Does not give a bithdate and says
that Father name was Thornton. So I take it that her father's last name was
Thornton. No mother name".
